The College of Life Sciences inherits the "Bainong Spirit", never forgets its original intention and mission, always regards "moral education and cultivating people" as its fundamental task, adheres to the concept of "teaching people to seek truth from a thousand teachings and learn to be a true person from a thousand disciplines", and lights up the ideal lamp for students and illuminates the way forward.
The college currently has 63 faculty members, including 8 professors, 18 associate professors, and 40 Ph.D. holders. There is one leading talent in scientific and technological innovation in Central Plains of China, one distinguished professor in Henan Province, two leaders of scientific and technological innovation teams in Henan Province, two academic and technical leaders in the Henan Provincial Department of Education, and four national visiting scholars. There are more than 1,200 undergraduate students and 50 master's students. In the past five years, the college has published a total of 116 papers, including 82 SCI indexed papers, and has been granted 18 authorized patents. It has hosted 4 national scientific research projects and 46 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects. It has won two first prizes for scientific and technological progress and one third prize for scientific and technological progress in Henan Province, and two second prizes for scientific and technological achievements in the Henan Provincial Department of Education.
The college has achieved fruitful results in talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services, having trained more than 6,000 outstanding professionals for society. Its graduates are highly regarded by employers and society, and many well-known experts, scholars, business elites, and management talents have emerged.
The College of Life Sciences has three undergraduate majors: Bioengineering, Biotechnology, and Biological Science. Among them, Bioengineering is a first-class major, a characteristic major, a comprehensive reform pilot major in higher education and a pilot major for the reform of engineering education talent training mode in Henan Province (Excellent Engineer Training Program).
The college currently has two first-level academic master's degree programs in Biology and Discipline Education (Biology), with Bioengineering as a key discipline at the university level and a key construction project for first-level disciplines authorized to grant master's degrees in Henan Province. Biology is a key discipline in Henan Province, with two provincial teaching platforms, the Henan Provincial Higher Education Biology Teaching Demonstration Center and the Henan Provincial Ordinary High School Student Practice Base. For facilitating students' study and practice, multiple on-campus training workshops have been established, including a biological pharmaceutical fermentation pilot workshop, a beer fermentation pilot workshop, a fermentation pipeline and equipment disassembly and assembly training workshop, a food and medicinal mushroom cultivation training base, and a beer brewing virtual simulation laboratory, as well as more than 30 off-campus internship bases in and outside the province.
